Llanelli and Mynydd Mawr Railway

Target £10,000

Llanelli and Mynydd Mawr Railway is a heritage railway that aims to re-instate as much as possible of the former Llanelli and Mynydd Mawr Railway that closed in 1989. Much work has been completed so far and new commercial plans have been drawn up to make the project sustainable in the longer term and create an exciting new venue.
The priority now is to raise £10,000 to restore Desmond which is a small Avonside 0-4-0 Saddle Tank Locomotive at present under rebuild Llangollen Locomotive Shed. £50K has already been raised and spent but we need £10k to finish the restoration.

Built in 1904, Desmond is one of only two of its kind with the other one being in Australia. Desmond spent all its working life in South Wales and is named after Desmond Lysaght, a member of the Lysaght family who built the locomotive in 1904, `the family were the owners of the Lysaght’s Orb Steelworks in Newport built in 1898 where this locomotive worked.
